should we/can we obtain an L type passport? we stay for 23 hour layover in China

Hello,
My friends and I will be traveling from India back to Tokyo in August with a 23 hour layover in Shanghai China. We would like to leave the airport to explore for a bit.

You needn't apply for anything in advance. If you plan to get out of the airport, you should apply for a stay permit at the airport when you arrive.
