backpacking in china, can anyone one help with our visa issue?

My sister and I are backing through China starting in Beijing to Urumqi. We need a L type  and we are unsure about what they are needing regarding proof of where we will be staying.

If you can't provide the invitation letter, you need to provide the round-trip air tickets and hotel booking in mainland China. In fact, you don't book all accommodation along your backtracking. You can book a hotel in Beijing and then apply for your L type with that booking bill.
