Does China and Hong Kong accept temp passport for visa applications

I'm going to HK but woul like to also visit China while i'm there, can i do a visa with a temporary passport? i'm worried that my passport might not be ready on time

Yes, it is ok. You can use your temporary passport for visa applications.
