About:China Business Visa

Change employer during M-Visa

I am currently employed as an intern here in Shanghai with a 180day M type. I want to quit my job because I do not like the internship, but I want to stay in PRC. My Questions:

1. Can I just quit my job and stay here, or will my current expire as soon as I quit my job?
2. Can I find another job and the M type gets transferred to my new job?
3. Is it also possible to go to Hongkong and apply for a L type which I extend to 90 days here in Shanghai?
Thank you for your help

Peter, may I know whether you get paid as an intern? If you get paid, then you shouldn't work under M type anymore. It's totally illegal.

1. Your current M type won't get expired if you quit.
2. If you find another job. You should apply for a Z type instead of M. Please be aware that it's illegal to work under M type with payment.
3. Currently, it's getting difficult to apply in HK because the authorities require the applicants to provide HK resident status.

Hey, No I am not getting paid (Only reimbursement for travel expenses such as taxis) (Which is still legal as far as I know.

That is really good news that my current will not expire. Can you tell me where I can get more information on that? Or any service in Shanghai which can give me more information on that? Thank you very much

According to what I know, it's impossible to change visa types without leaving PRC, especially for the Z type. So I think you will be asked to go back to your own country to apply for the Z type if you find a job. Anyway, you can visit local entry and exit management department in the PSB to confirm this.

If I can stay here on my M without getting into trouble I am more than happy to stay on the M.. I will get in touch with the Exit Entry bureau to get more info on the matter.

Thank you
