About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

My return ticket from Bangkok to San Francisco has a plane change in Beijing with a 9 hour layover.

Can I use the 72 hour transit visa to have her see me at the airport or go to her house few a few hours? Do I have to pick up my luggage, go thru immigration etc. and then check back in as if it were a separate flight?

Yes, you are eligible for the 72 hours free transit in Beijing. Of course, you can go out of the airport during your stay. If it was a separate flight, I think you need to re-check at the immigration checkpoint.
