72 hrs stay

my flight arrives at 2:00PM at PEK and I am flying out at 1:05PM(so total about 71 hr stay in Beijing). Do I need to get an official visa or would it be ok to just use 72 hr free stay?
If my departing flight get delayed, would that cause a problem?
