About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Flight from Brisbane (Australia) to Amsterdam via Guangzhou and Bejing

Hi,

I am flying with China Southern from Brisbane to Amsterdam and my flights are as follows:
1) flight Brisbane to Guangzhou
wait 2 hours in Guangzhou
2) flight Guangzhou to Beijing
wait 2.5 hours in Beijing
3) flight Beijing to Amsterdam

Do I need a visa before I depart Brisbane or can have a 72 hours free transit at the airport?
Regards
Max

Hi, the above itinerary does not apply to the 72 hr free transit, but you still are exempted from visa to transit via two cities within 24 hours in China. You just need to apply for a stay permit after arrival at Guangzhou airport showing your passport and flight ticket.

Thank you Sammy.
Do you have a link to a chinese customs website that confirms this?
I am getting conflicting information. I found the same advise you gave me on TripAdvisor, but both the airline (China Southern) and the Office in Brisbane tell me that I should get a visa.
I am a bit concerned to be stranded in Guangzhou because they may not let me go on my next flight. At the same time the visa would cost $300 for 3 people and it is quite a bit of money.
Thank you for your help .
Regards
Max

Sorry, I have no official reference for this. But if necessary, you can try to contact Guangzhou airport direclty via 0086-20-36066950 or 0086-20-32090088.
