I am afraid not, you can visit the nearest police station or the PSB for extension of your stay and of course you need to pay fine for overstaying.

You really cannot send your passport back home and let your family get a new visa added and then sent on to you, because you will be in deep trouble as the Chinese immigration need to see an entry and exit stamp and by doing it this way, you will not have an exit stamp in your passport only an entry stamp.
Secondly, you really do not want to lose your passport, I had mine stolen in 2009 and the procedures that I had to go through nearly drove me crazy, luckily, I have good English speaking Chinese friends and they took good care of me otherwise I would have been living a nightmare!!

If you overstay, you will face a fine and could be banned from entering China for five years!!
