72-Hour Visa-Free Transit in Beijing Airport

I am a U.S. citizen. If I travel from Los Angeles to Hong Kong then to Seoul with a 22-hour layover in BJ, do I need to apply for a visa in order to stay at a hotel in the city or can I get the 72-hour visa-free transit at the BJ airport?

Since you have the connecting flights and are USA citizen, the visa is not needed. You just need to get a permit at the airport to get out of the airport.
