About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

I am making a one night stopover in Shanghai going from Auckland NZ to Turkey.

If I have all the necessary document, ie ongoing flight details, passport, accommodation booked for the night etc. can I apply and get the transit visa on arrival at the airport. - Beijing does this, does Shanghai as well? Thanks

How long the stopover will be? if it is under 24 hours, you can do this on arrival. But if it is longer than 24 hours, you need to inform your airline about the free transit request before flight.

its 36 hours layover in Shanghai. I have asked our airline AIR NZ and they said I need to ask the Chinese Embassy in NZ who only seem to have a cell phone no, no email address etc.

Also do you need a visa for a 3 day stopover in Hongkong

You enjoy free entry to HK, so visa is not required for 3 day stopover then.
