Daytrip or overnight trip better from Shanghai to Hangzhou?

Hi there. I'll be visiting HZ from SH in May with some friends. Will a daytrip suffice or will an overnight trip be better to explore all the scenic places there? Thank you!

To my experience, a day trip in HZ will suffice, especially the West Lake scenic area cannot be missed!

I think if time is possible, it is suggested to stay there for a day and one night. After the sightseeing during the day time, you can enjoy the Impression of West Lake in the evening. It is fantastic.
