Extend Tourist (L) visa in China for studies

Hey,
I will fly to Guangzhou in 3 days for a period of 5 months. The problem I have is that due to the Chinese new year and some communication problems I only got a tourist L for 60 days. The total length of my stay will be around 150 days (1 March-13 July). Now my question:

Is there a way to apply for a redince permit in Guangzhou or to change the status of it (to F or X1)?
What is the best way for me to make sure I can stay for the entire period?

Thank you very much.
Kind regards,
Christoph

As I know, L can not be extend to F or X1 in China. If necessary, you can try to apply for Student X2 in HK if you have documents such as admission letter and invitation letter.
