About:China Transit Visa

72 hour visa free at PEK

I am a Canadian citizen and will be flying from SYD-YYZ with a 12 hr. layover at PEK. I would like to tour Beijing for the day I have my layover. Will I require a G type or am I eligible for the free transit when I leave the airport? If I am free, must I get permission to leave the airport? Do I do that in advance of my trip or do I get something official from someone in security when I leave the airport?

Hi, you just need to apply for a stay permit after arrival at Beijing airport showing your passport and flight ticket for leaving. It is easy and you just need to fill a small form.

Thanks so much for your very speedy reply. Is there a specific line that I go to for immigration? Some have reported that you stay to the "left lane" when going through immigration before exiting the airport.

Yes, there are counters for transit passengers with clear signs. So, don't worry about this.
