china trip paid and in 3 weeks

Hello, my wife and I bought a vacation package to china and it is in 3 weeks. We live in Arizona and need help getting a chinese visa. I saw Los Angeles is the closest consulate, 5 hours away. Do we just show up and apply for it there and can it be given same day?
