About:Internet in China

I bought my phone in Australia - can I use it in China and what about sim card?

We are travelling to Shanghai and Beiging. Are we able to use our own phone we currently have and bought from Australia or do we need to buy a local phone and sim card? How does the sim card work in China? Do we just buy them say with a credit of some amount like 100 Yuan?

Yes, you just need buy a Chinese sim card and then put it inside your cellphone. Then you can make calls. But you should firstly figure out which mode your cellphone support, CDMA, WCDMA or GSM? If it is CDMA phone, you should buy a China Telecom sim card. If it a WCDMA or GSM card, both China Mobile and China Unicom sim cards are ok.
