Consequences of a person holding an expired passport in guangzhou

What might be the consequences if my husband a seafarer who's onboard at present going to singapore then guangzhou if by the time his vessel will reach guangzhou his passport timely expired?

If possible, your husband should renew his passport before he comes to PRC. I am afraid that he even can't enter PRC if his passport expires at the same.
