Multiple Entry 12 month Visa for Americans

Hello,

I read the application required documents and saw that it was required to show a document with a two way ticket. If I apply for a multiple entry one, do I have to have proof initially that I would be entering China multiple times i.e. tickets for all the times I would be going to China in the 12 month period?
