About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Is the 72 hours VISA-FREE transit applied for cruises

I am US citizen and taking a cruise from Singapore to Japan. The ship will stop at Shanghai. Does this regulation applied to cruiseship? Do I still need one to visit shanghai?

Yes, the 72 hour free transit only applies for passengers by air. But if you visit by cruise for a stay no more than 24 hours in Shanghai, you can apply for a stay permit at Shanghai port.
