is it possible to travel from urumqi to india ?

im interested in perhaps going by land from china to india.. i am in urumqi right now.. im hoping this is possible.. i am carrying a us passport

well there dont necessarily have to be buses operating in the area. is it legally and geographically passable, do roadways exist and do authorities permit. i could hitchhike
