Transfer Flight in Shanghai with no connected flight

Hello, I will arrive in Shanghai Pudong at night from Manila(Philipines) and will leave Shanghai Pudong the next night to Stuttgart(Germany). Shanghai - Stuttgart is already booked but not connected or related to the first flight. I will have no entries on my China Visa left at that point of time. Would that be suitable for the 72 hours free transit and do I have to apply for it somewhere at the airport in Shanghai then or in advance?

You can enjoy this free transit in Shanghai as long as you have a confirmed ticket leaving within 72 hours from Shanghai airport. So, don't worry about it. You just need to inform your airline about the need before boarding the plane to Shanghai.
