Applying for Chinese visa in Milan with British passport

I am currently living in Italy, however will soon be travelling to PRC on a cruise ship as a passenger. I emailed the Chinese embassy to ask if I could get it in Milan with a British passport and they said yes that is fine as long as I take my current italian type with me, however, I don't need one to be in Italy! What documentation can I take instead to the embassy to apply for my Chinese type? I have asked them this, but no one is replying to me!

Hi, this is what I found from the website of CVASC in Milan:
you must provide the original and photocopy of your valid certificates of residence, employment or student status, or valid Italian identity card, or other valid certificates of legal stay provided by the relevant authorities of the country where the CVASC is located.(European Union citizens must provide a valid certificate stating the residence, employment or student status, non EU citizens must provide a permit of stay “permesso di soggiorno” with at least six months of remaining validity).
