VISA for foreigner married to Chinese national

I am a Canadian man. I have been living in China for 8 1/2 years. I have been married to a Chinese woman for 1 1/2 years. I would like to know if there is a special visa that I can get. I am very interested in two things:

1) Having one that I do not have to renew every year;
2) Having one that allows me to work independently, rather than working for a company or school.

I hope you can help me answer those things.
Thank you
Daniel

You can apply for the Q1 type and then change it to a temporary resident permit. But it also requires to be renewed. Or you might try to apply for the permanent resident permit. You should be aware that it's very difficult to get it since only around 200 foreigners per year can acquire the permanment resident permit.
