American Citizen in need of a travel Visa for China

I am going to be visiting China in May of next year. I live in Denver, CO which apparently is covered by the consulate in Chicago. Does that mean I have to physically go to Chicago for application? Or is there a way to send all the required documents either through the mail or even electronically?

Thank you, Darrell L

No, you can entrust someone else or a travel agency to handle your application on your behalf as well. But as I know, the consulate does not accept mail application.
