What type visa should I apply for, s1 or s2?

Hello there , my husband got a Z type one for 8 months, my brother in law got Z type for over a year. Both of them have trading companies. I want to apply for s1 with my brother in law paper work Bcuz he got z with 1 year. I also have 2 kids from my husband, my kids and I are American citizen. What kind of papers do I need? Thier father and his family are Iraqi. We want to get the s1 that allow us to stay more than 6 months. We are planning to live there. Do we have to apply for the permanent or temporary residence?

I think you should apply for the S1 with the help of your husband instead of your brother in law. You should prepare the following documents except for the passport, filled application form and photo:
1. invitation letter from your husband.
2. copies of your husband's passport and resident permit.
3. kinship certificates. You should provide the marriage certificate and birth certificates for your children (both original and copies are required).

By the way, I am afraid that you can't apply for the S1 that is longer than 8 months because your husband just holds a 8 months Z type one. If you get the S1 successfully, please remember to apply for the resident permit within one month when you arrive in PRC.

This is why I was afraid and was wondering if I can do it with my brother in law. As I know s1 is more than 6 months and not more than 8 months
