Tourist Visa application paperwork

We are travelling to China in Mar/Apr 2014 and are hoping to obtain it in Australia before we go. We have our flight to China booked and a ferry booking out of China to Japan, which I can provide copies of, but my question is, do we really need to provide all the accommodation bookings as well? We were hoping to just book our first couple of nights and then go from there. I have read that as long as you provide confirmation of just one accommodation booking that is enough, it is correct?

Yes, hotel booking for the first few nights is enough for application.
