Flight ticket from HK to Beijing is also required for application. But as I know, if you are a temporary visitor to Thailand, you may not be allowed to apply Chinese visa there.

Hello Ted .
I went by the consulate in Chiang Mai and they told me that I could . They just wanted to see what type I'm on here in thailand ( tourist ) I know I can apply for one in Hong Kong at the airport after arrival but I thought I could save time by doing it in Thailand . Do you know more about this ?

Your passport should be with at least six months of remaining validity and blank visa pages. Copies of your passport data page and your tourist visa for Thailand, a passport size photo attached to the application form. Your airline ticket to HK is ok, but you should also prepare a ticket for leaving.

Thanks Ted , I have all that a reservation confirmed form Hong Kong to Beijing return and a hotel reservation also confirmed as well as a flight ticket to and from Chiang Mai to Hong Kong along with a multiple entry visa to Thailand to show them . It seems pretty straight forward if I have all of that
