Do a canadian citizen need a visa for China?

I am a Canadian citizen, currently in Seoul. Planning multiple travel. Seoul to Shanghai, staying less than 72 hrs. in Shanghai then continue my travel to Hong Kong. Returning from Hong-Kong to Seoul and had to transfer flight in Shanghai in transit.

If you just transit in Shanghai less than 72 hours and have onward ticket for HK, I think you can enjoy 72 hours free transit. It means that you need not apply a L type in advance.
