Does the elder octopus card charge a fixed amount regardless of distrance of travel in HK?

There is no fixed amount of money charged in advance.
When you buy or rent a card, you need to pay the card for about 50HK$ deposit and the Initial stored value for about 20HK$.
When you return the card, the deposit and the storing money can be returned to you.1
