About:China Visa Application in UK

I have booked my return flights but I was just wondering should I apply for a tourist visa or a visit for visiting relative?

My niece who is a US citizen working in PRC has invited me to visit her to coincide with my sister's visit to celebrate Thanksgiving towards the end of November.

You should apply for a tourist type. Just ask her to send you an invitation letter so that you needn't buy the round-trip air ticket and book a hotel in advance.
