About:Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport

Can I meet with a friend in guangzhou airport during his 3hr. wait for international airplane transfer?

I have a friend who has a 3 hour layover (plane transfer) in GZ Airpport whilst travelling from Canada to Australia. I would like to have a short visit with him while he is here (coffee maybe?). Must he stay in the Departure Lounge for all of the 3 hours? Can I go in to meet him in the Departure Lounge if he is not allowed to go into the main terminal?

May I know which country he is from? Because there is the 72h free-visa transit, if he is qualified for the policy, he are allowed to get out of the airport or transit hall to meet with you.

You'd better hurry up. After all, 3h for Transit + meeting, time is so tight.

Thank you for your reply. He is coming from Vancouver, Canada originally. Would he just apply at the Chinese embassy in Vancouver for this free 72-hour VISA? Do you know how long a special VISA might take to process? Is there enough time to get one between now and Nov 06?

I really appreciate the information! This is a very important meet-up for me.....

And, by the way, we were not actually even planning to leave the airport at all. We will just get a bite to eat together at the airport. I just want to know if he will be allowed out of the Departure Lounge, or whether I am allowed to get into the Departure Lounge. The airport website did not make it clear either way.

Again, thank you for your help!

oops - I am so sorry for not having all of this information in one reply - but you referred to the Transit Lounge, which I think is the same thing as I was trying to describe by using the words 'Departure Lounge'. The bottom line is, does my friend have to remain inside the Transit Lounge for his entire 3 hour lay over, or is he allowed to go into the other parts of the airport (without getting out itself). Or does he need this 72-hour free-visa transit just to be able to get out of the Transit Lounge? In the alternative, is there a way for us to have a visit IN the Transit Lounge - that is, will I be allowed into the Transit Lounge without an outgoing flight ticket? I'm really sorry if I am making this very complicated. I just need to be really certain of what the options are!

Well, your friend does not need a visa at all. The 72h free-visa transit permit is easily accessible from his airline. With that, he can get out of the airport (as well as every corner of the airport) to meet you. There is transit area, but you may be not allowed to get in without an airticket.
