Can I just use my current passport and current visa when I visit or should I renew my passport and re-apply for a new one?

My China visa is expiring in Jan and my passport is expiring in Feb. I am planning to travel to China in Dec. My current passport will then be valid for less than six months when I enter.

You can renew your passport first, but the current visa is ok for entry. So, you only need to bring both the old and new passports for entry.
