About:Chinese Embassy in Japan

applying for a visa while in Tokyo

Hello
I'm a Canadian citizen resident in the UK. I have to travel to China for business and will have two weeks in Tokyo before I'm due in China. I would like to apply for a Chinese visa while in Tokyo and will go in person to the visa center and pay for the express service. I land in Tokyo on October 7th and would plan to fly to Dalian China on October 20. Do you foresee any issues as long as I allow enough time with the express service?
many thanks

Tom

Hi, it is ok, you can apply from the embassy in person, and time is enough for application as the regular processing takes 4 working days only, and 2-3 working days for express service.

I read that for non-Japanese passports, applications in Tokyo should be done via a travel agency. But you say that it can be done in the embassy. Could you confirm that? Thank you

Hi Juan, you are right. You need to apply through a local travel agency.

From what I found out today from the Weston agency in Roppongi which deals with visa applications - you do it through agencies if you live in Japan (i.e. have a resident card). Otherwise, if you are in Japan for a short vacation (like the Canadian) above, you must do it through the embassy. The man at the agency also told me that it was possible for short-term visitors to use the agency before, but not now. And this is not made clear on the Chinese embassy's website.
