Hi, I will be traveling to Huangshan from Shanghai. I was thinking whether I can make it to Xihai Hotel by 2pm from Shanghai so that I can make it to see the sunset?

Yes, it is doable and even in Dec. you can still enjoy the sunrise and sunset in most cases.

5. How many days would you recommend to visit the mountain, including short stops at Hongcun at comfortable pace?

1. It will be cold in the scenic area during mid Nov. The lowest temp shall be around -2C and the highest temp is 8-10C.
2. Yeah, it might be a little slippery to hike the mount, especieally in the early morning or rainy days. Just be careful!
3/4. The West Sea Canyon will be open during your travel. Don't worry! Actually, it is closed during Dec. and the end of next March for the sake of safety.
5. Personally speaking, at least three days are required.
6. Here is just me general suggestion without knowing your specific schedule of trains or buses: Huangshan City - Hongcun - Yellow Mountain Scenic Area (you can climb up and take cable car down. )
