how hard would it be to tour Beijing with a group of boy scouts without a commercial company tour

We are a group of American Boy Scouts Troop 32 from West Virginia who are planning on visiting the World Scout Jamboree in Japan. My name is Milda V. Mullins. I am the Chairperson of the Troop and i would like to know how hard would it be to tour BJ on our own instead of having a commercial group tour. We need to do t as inexpensive as possible. I think since we are so close to China that it would be awesome to tour at least BJ while we are in Asia. As I am not sure if our Scouts would ever get that opportunity again.

Hi, Milda.
If you have already got the visa for China, traveling is not the problem. You can travel on your own instead of joining a tour group. One thing I need to remind you is that if you want to take travel on your own, you may need to book the hotels in advance.
Hope you can have a nice trip in BJ.

It hard to manage the group of 32 boys if you travel by public bus or metro. How about if someone get lost in the station, or in the senic spot? Do any of you can communicate in Chinese language? You know how large the population in China is, so the metro trains and public buses are always crowded.

Actually for such a big group of 32, it's not very expensive to take a guided tour as the travel agency usually can get preferential price for a large group. You don't need to join other groups, but ask them to tailor make an itinerary for your group of 32 people. You'll then enjoy a worry-free tour of the city.
