Do I need a tourist visa for 3 nights stay in Shanghai, I am a us citizen

If you are traveling to a third country via Shanghai with a stopover less than 72 hours, visa is not required. Otherwise, you have to apply for either a tourist L visa or a transit G visa in advance for this trip.
