About:Chinese Temporary Residence Permit

School took my passport to take care of residence permit, but I need it back

Hello!
I came to study in a Chinese University with an X visa a few weeks ago. The school took my passport to take care of the residence permit. They said it will take approximately 50 days. Now, 3 weeks later, it turned out that the teaching in this "university" is nothing what I expected and I feel like I'm wasting my time here. I would like to get a flight back home within a few days, but the problem is that the school holds my passport. I know that I do have the right to get it back whenever I want, it is legally mine. Will this cause any trouble? I know that my X will get cancelled but that is okay, I wont be needing it anymore after going home. My main concern is that how fast will they hand my passport back, and is there any chance that they might possibly refuse to give it back to me? I mean, what if there was a death in my home country or some other really urgent reason for me to leave the country?

Hi, you should ask your passport back asap, as I know, it is easy to cancel a visa at local PSB if you want to leave.

But the PSB didn't take it, the school did. Is it still necessary for me to visit the PSB? Shouldn't the school give it back to me in this case? I don't live in a big city. It's more like a village. I have no idea where to find a PSB here.

To find the person in the school who charges your application for residence permit with your passport. I think maybe it has not been lodged into PSB yet, so it is possible to get your passport back easily, or you can ask him to cancel your X directly.
