Generally, you should get off at Dongzhimen Station and then transfer several times on MTR to the West Station. It is too complicated for a foreigner. I suggest you take airport shuttle bus line 7 to West Train Station directly.

Thanks very much. Is the MTR very different to the London Underground as far as changing trains? Are the different lines close to each other? How long will Airport Shuttle Bus take to BJ West on a Saturday night about 10pm?

The different MTR lines are not far from each other. For some changes, you can even transfer within the same station.

The shuttle bus takes around an hour to the West Station.

I have tried to work out a routing. If I get off at Dongzhimen and then go to Line 2 to Fuxingmen, change to Line 1 for 3 stops to Military Museum. Is it a far walk to the BJ Zhongyu Century Grand Hotel I am staying in which is opposite BJ West station. If I took the Shuttle Bus, No. 9 as you suggested, it does not show the BJ West stop but only Sunflower Hotel. I only have a carry on bag, so no heavy luggage.

Oh, I see. SInce you'd like to experience MTR, it is fine. And the way you worked out is doable. Upon arrival at Military Museum Station, you can easily find the shuttle buses to BJ West Station.

Having looked at further subway maps getting from BJ Capital to the West Train Station, can I not take Airport express to Dongzhimen and then No 2 south to BJ Station and then No 9 west to BJ West. Seems an easier connection. Not all maps showed this new line. What approx time will it take? Is it express or are there stops?

I'm afraid local subway line 9 can not take you from BJ Railway Station to West Station, but bus no. 9 can. Do you refer to bus no. 9? If so, your plan is feasible.
