72-hours exemption for non-Japanese citizen living in Japan

Hello,
I'm Ukrainian national permanently living in Japan and having a Permanent Resident status. I'll be visiting Guangzhou for less than 72 hours as a business trip and flying from Tokyo to Guangzhou and back. Could I use the 72-hours exemption upon entering Guangzhou or should I obtain a Chinese visa before my trip? Thanks.

You need to apply for it in advance because the free transit policy does not apply to single return trip like Tokyo -Guangzhou-Tokyo.
