About:Shanghai Facts

My husband and me plan to visit Shanghai free and easy from Malaysia for 1 week in mid Oct 2013.

We are both seniors, retired and would like to see as many places as we can while we are still mobile. Appreciate any suggestions as to the "must see" places, how we should plan our itinerary, suitable mode of transport and the recommended hotels (4-5 star). We know group tours are available but we would prefer to have the flexibility of moving on our own. Thanks in advance.

For the hotel, SSAW Hotel Zhongxing SH is a nice one for you.
For visiting, the Yuyuan Garden, the Bund, the Huangpu River, the SH Museum, the Xintiandi, the Oriental Pearl TV Tower and the Zhujiajiao Water Town are some must see places.
I suggest you to arrange the Yuyuan Garden, the Huangpu River and the Bund in one day. Taking a cruise on the Huangpu River at night is suggested. Then the SH Museum, the Xintiandi and the Oriental Pearl TV Tower in another day. Then the water town in one day.
Besides, if you have other time, you can choose to go to the Jade Buddha Temple and Shikumen Residence to enjoy the old SH culture.

Hope you can have a nice trip in that city.

Thank you for your advise. Is it easy to take the subway from the SSAW hotel to these places of interest or should we take the taxi or city bus? Thanks again.

Yes, it is very easy. The hotel is close to Yuyuan Garden Station of subway line 10 and it is very close to East Nanjing Road Station, too.
