can my son apply for visa to china on his own though travelling in a group through a travel agent?

family of 6 people visiting shanghai,hanzchou,suzhou,nanjing and other nearby districts through a travel agent in malaysia. Application to china is done by travel agency and takes 10 days before we can get back our passports. My son cannot afford to wait for 10 days to get his passport back because his work requires him to travel and he needs the passport urgently. Can he apply for it himself at CVASC. Plse tell me where he must go ,what documents to bring along and what forms to fill. Thanks
