Renewing "Family" (L) visa

I am due to renew my family L soon. I was issued with a two year L last time. Now the rules are changing does anyone know what paperwork I'll need. Problem is, my wife and I are hoping to buy a new apartment, but if I have any difficulties with paperwork, I might have to return to home country - and I can't really afford both.
If it is about the same as a couple of years ago, I shouldn't have a problem. The PSB say they can't tell me until September - too late if I want to get this apartment.

Yes, because the new law will come into effect on September 1st. But personally I think it is easy for you to get your residence permit renewed as you apply family reunion here.

Thanks for the reply Adam. I understand that there is to be all sorts of changes - but no-one (including the PSB) seem to be able to tell me what they will be. I am (probably misinformed) that they will now only allow 90 days or maybe 180 days. Someone also said I'll need a CRB check, etc, etc.
Anyone heard anything that might be even slightly above gossip level?
