Yes, and you need to apply for it in advance. Shenzhen visa on arrival is not available for US passport holders.0

What if you are flying into Hong Kong, can you obtain visa there to go into Shenzhen?0

It is also a little hard to successfully apply for that in HK, unless you hve legal HK resident status. So it is best to apply for that in advance.0
