In my opinion, it is suggested to go to Kaiping by direct coach. The coaches are frequent at East Coach Terminal from 06:35 to 19:00 with interval around 40 minutes. The bus fare is 61RMB per person.
From your hotel to that bus station, if you want convenience, you can take a taxi to reach. There is about 12 to 13km between your hotel to that bus station and the taxi fare is around 40 to 50RMB.
Hope these information can help you.

Are you ABSOLUTELY SURE that there is a DIRECT bus from your suggested "East Coach Terminal" that goes directly to Kaiping? I will be staying at one of the Pearl River Cruise hotels , located by the Haizhu Square. Someone said that I should take a taxi from hotel to the Fangcun Bus Station located at No. 251 Huadi DaoSt located in the Liwain District, not to East Coach Terminal. Your suggestion of going to the East Coach Terminal, which is located in the Tianhe District to catch a coach directly to go to KAIPING. IS THERE REALLY A DIRECT BUS from your suggested "East Coach Terminal" from GZ to Kaiping? I looked it up the East Coach Terminal in Yahoo! search. The local bus line # 1 to the East Coach Terminal indicated that transfer points for buses to Kowloon, Hong Kong. It's also an immigration check point, however Line # 1 will take you over to Fangcun Bus Station in the Liwan District, which from there, there is a DIRECT coach for 61RMB to Kaiping: GZ Fangcun Bus Station to Kaiping Bus Timetable. Wikipedia: From GZ it is easiest to take a bus from Fengcun bus station (芳村汽车站) at Kengkou Metro Station. The ride takes about 2 hours and should cost ¥57. The above may be outdated info.. so I want to BE SURE. Once again, So ARE YOU SURE you can catch a DIRECT COACH to Kaiping from your suggested "East Coach Terminal"? Pls re-evaluate your suggestion via some research and get back to me. We are an elderly couple celebrating our 33rd anniversary by going Kaiping to find my mother's ancestral village...don't want to be stranded at the WRONG bus terminal (with all our luggage) because of misinformation. Please help us.

Yes, he is right . I just searched in the official website of GZ bus transport and get to know there are frequent buses at the East Bus Station to Kaiping indeed. Don't worry! However, I don't find any schedule departing from Fangcun Bus Station.
