possible to meet colleagues during 5 hours transit at pudong airport sh?

I am transiting at PVG SH next week on the way to San Francisco for 5 hours. Upon arrival, do I need to go through immigration to get to the arrival hall where it's accessible by public or I will be directed straight to the transit hall where no public access is possible? I would like to meet up with my colleagues if it is possible. Kindly advise if such arrangement is possible & where in the airport I could meet them. I read that: Visa is not necessary for cabin staff and passengers from any other countries who come to China and will only stay within airports no more than 24 hours.
