About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Seoul to Shanghai and onto New Zealand via Seoul

I am flying to Shanghai from Seoul and staying for just under 72hours before flying back to New Zealand but I am flying back with a flight change over in Seoul. Does that mean I dont qualify for a 72 hr visa free transit?

Yes, I think so. But you can try to confirm this with the Shanghai Airport Frontier Inspection service directly at 0086-21-51105100.
