obtaining chinese visa without ticketshotel reservations yet

Question

My husband and I are going to the Philippines on the second week of October for our annual vacation. This time, however, we want to visit China as tourists. We do not have tickets nor hotel reservations yet. Can we still get it in Los Angeles even without them? We are US citizens and we do have US passports. Please advice. Thank you.

I am afraid not, you should prepare hotel bookings and ticket for application.

Thanks Leander, Can we then apply in the Philippines after purchasing tickets and making hotel reservations? Is it easy for a US citizen to apply for it in the Philippines? How long is the process?

According to the embassy there, you must submit valid proof of residency, employment or study in the Philippines if you apply there. Thus, you are suggested to apply in US in advance as it is the easiest. A single entry Chinese L is valid for 3 months after issue date, so it is ok for entry within its validity.
