For BJ, about 3 to 4 days are enough for you. During those days, the Great Wall, the Ming Tombs, the Forbidden City, the Tiananmen Square, the Temple of Heaven, the Summer Palace, Houhai area, Yonghe Lamasery, Water Cube, Bird Nest and Fragrant Hills Park are worth seeing.
Besides, the main section of the Great Wall, I think Jinshanling section is worth seeing and hiking there is wonderful.
Then I suggested you to go to Qingdao and Qinhuangdao to enjoy the seaside cities.
After that if you still have time, Pingyao Ancient Town is worth visiting.

Hi Liz,

Thank you for your reply. I have added Jinshanling and Fragrant hills to my list of places to see.
My travel buddy is keen to go to inner Mongolia, but I am afraid it might be too far and a little touristy? Have you been?

Many thanks,

I am afraid that I have not been there before, but I heard it is a beautiful places and really worth going.
I think you can go there, since two weeks are so long for only visiting the BJ city.
