first time to china!

i am traveling to china for the first time. based on what i read so far, should i book my plane ticket first and make a hotel reservation (july 15 till july 30 2013), before i apply for the chinese visa? i am traveling alone and will do my adventure as such. i'm planning to go to Guangdong then be like the clouds and go where the wind takes me.

your advice?

Yes, Round-trip ticket and hotel bookings are required for application without invitation letter from a Chinese travel agency or tourism bureau. If you do not have a clear plan, you can just book hotels in Guangdong for a few days. A single entry tourist L allows 30 days stay, so, you are suggested to book a return flight within 30 days.
