Tourist visa (Family or Group)

Does a L type one allow me multiple re-entry and how long is it good for? Say for example, I go to China on a L type one and want to make a trip to the Philippines or Taiwan on the weekends, can I do this on my L type one ?

Generally speaking, L type is valid for 30 days only and you can extend it twice. Considering your situation, a double entry L type one is ok for you.
