About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

I qualify for the 72-hour transit free stay, right?

I'm from the US and flying from Kyoto to Kuala Lumpur with just under 48 hours of a stop in Beijing. Malaysia doesn't require a visa for US business travelers. Also, can I book a hotel outside the airport (in the heart of the city) for the two nights I'll be there? Thanks!

As long as you don't fly right back to Japan after visiting Malaysia.

Nope, heading back to USA after Malaysia. I read some where that you need to alert your airline that you'll be using the 72 hour permit. How and when do you do that if you have to? Thanks!

Yes, same question. United does not know about the policy.

Hi Eric, you should tell your airline about this transit request before boarding the plane to Beijing so that they will email your information to the airport. You will get the free transit permit on arrival.

If the airline does not know the policy, I am afraid you have to get a valid visa to board the plane.
